Information for Guests
Thank you for considering our shark tours. We are pleased to offer you an extraordinary opportunity to experience the majestic sharks of False Bay in their natural habitat. Our tours operate from Simon’s Town, conveniently located just 45 minutes from Cape Town.
Tour Overview
Trip Options:
Both excursions feature shark viewing and cage diving. Please note that exact times may vary and will be communicated to you the day prior to your trip.
Dive Experience: We offer scuba diving using a Hookah system on all our trips, ensuring a more comfortable and extended experience compared to breath-hold diving. Each trip is exclusive, accommodating a maximum of 12 guests, whereas other operators may host up to 40 participants per boat.
Shark Species: Currently, we primarily encounter Bronze Whaler Sharks. Other species in the bay include Broadnose Sevengill Cow Sharks, Mako Sharks, and Blue Sharks. While Great White Sharks have not been sighted in recent seasons, we remain hopeful for their return.
Meeting and Departure
- Meeting Location: Our shark office, Wharf Road, Simon’s Town.
- Boat: The Blue Pointer. Upon arrival, you will receive a warm welcome, a comprehensive safety briefing, and an overview of the trip’s itinerary, including weather forecasts and expected procedures.
Itinerary:
- Boat Ride: A 25-minute journey to Seal Island, where you will learn about the island’s wildlife.
- Dive Spot: A ten-minute ride to the dive location, chosen based on optimal conditions. The cage will be lowered, and a bait line deployed to attract sharks. Dive times average 20 minutes per guest. Participation in the cage dive is encouraged but not mandatory. Our onboard guides will provide information and answer any questions throughout the trip.
Requirements
- Minimum Age: 8 years (10 years for cage diving)
- Fitness Level: No specific fitness requirement
- Certification: None required
- Experience Level: No prior experience necessary; basic swimming skills or comfort in the water recommended
Inclusions
- All necessary dive gear
- Light snacks and refreshments, including bottled water, fruit, cool drinks, and snacks
Exclusions
- Special dietary requirements (Kosher, vegan, Halal, etc.)—please self-cater as needed
Transfers
- Optional return transfers from designated pickup points in and around Cape Town. Note: Single travelers incur a flat supplement rate, not a per-person rate.
Important Notes
- Minimum Participants: Trips require a minimum of 6 guests to proceed. If this number is not met, we will attempt to reschedule you for another date that suits your availability.
- Age Restrictions: Children under 8 are not permitted on the boat, and those under 11 are not allowed in the shark cage. The final decision on age suitability for the cage dive rests with the skipper.
Cancellation Policy
- 16-30 days before start date: 50% cancellation fee
- 15 days before start date: 100% cancellation fee (for groups of more than 4)
- Less than 7 days: 75% cancellation fee
- 48 hours before start date: 100% cancellation fee
In the event of cancellation by ASEC, no cancellation fee will apply, and deposits will be refunded. Please Note: As of October 1, 2023, card transaction fees will not be refunded by the bank. Refunds will be issued minus the card fee.
