Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need SCUBA Certification?
No experience or certification is required. We use a hookah surface-supplied air system which allows you to breathe naturally underwater. Everything is guided step by step by our experienced crew.
What if no sharks are spotted?
Shark sightings cannot be guaranteed as these are wild animals in their natural habitat. However, False Bay has one of the highest densities of Great White Sharks in the world. In the event of no sighting, we offer a discounted return trip.
How long is the trip?
Trips last approximately 3.5 hours depending on conditions. The first trip departs between 06:45–11:00 and the second between 09:00–13:00. The time slot booked is not the meeting time — exact details are confirmed the day before.
Is shark cage diving safe?
Yes — when done with a professional, certified operator like African Shark Eco-Charters. The cage is a purpose-built, engineered aluminium structure. Our crew are highly trained and experienced, and strict safety protocols are followed at all times.
Can children participate?
Children over the age of 8 years are welcome. Children over the age of 10 years old are allowed to dive in the cage, accompanied by their parents, and at the discretion of the skipper
What if the weather is bad?
We always try to accommodate our guests on the next trip. This does however depend on the availability of the bookings.
If we have to cancel, we refund the full amount less the bank charges.
IMPORTANT: When our service provider reverses or refunds a credit card, the bank will no longer return or reverse their card fee (transaction costs). Your card will be refunded the full amount less the card fee.
