“Simply Brilliant!”

[pullquote] so glad I did it with African Shark Eco-Charters, will recommend them to anyone who decides to do this! [/pullquote] Very professional while being friendly and felt like a family. It was a pleasure to do the trip with you! Thank you, Rob, Allie and Naomi! Booked a few months before I came out to SA and was very easy and was kept updated to confirm that the trip was on. The trip itself was excellent, saw loads of sharks, had a great dive in the cage, got loads of photos and got humpbacks and dolphins into the price. Cage [...]

Great White Sharks mysterious migration

Migration is one of the great mysteries of the animal kingdom that continue to elude scientists worldwide. While this phenomenon is witnessed in all major animal groups, including birds, mammals, insects, crustaceans, fish, reptiles and amphibians, surprisingly little definitive knowledge is understood about its mechanisms and specifics.  Broadly, migration refers to the large scale movement of an animal group from one place to another.  However, the reasons or triggers for such movements are varied; including seasonal changes in weather patterns and food availability to breeding behaviour. There is even something called irruptive migrations within certain species, which are migrations that [...]

Great Whites sharks Seal Island in False Bay is unbelievable!

False Bay: Full of life and ready to entertain you! The past few days at Seal Island in False Bay have been unbelievable! After the strong storm over the weekend, dawn broke Monday morning on the water to a beautiful sunrise over the mountains and a very welcomed warm, sunny day. We started the morning with an amazing breach on our decoy by one of our favourite and most well-known great white sharks, ‘Cuz’. The breach was a full, out of the water hit on our fake seal, leaving all guests and crew on board the Blue Pointer 2 jumping [...]

Shark cage diving with scuba is best!

Don’t deny it! When you are swimming in the water and a piece of seaweed brushes against your leg you freak out!  This is just a funny caption I found about how a shark might feel!  Wouldn’t it be amazing to know what they were thinking? I think we sometimes feel uneasy in the ocean because it is so vast and unknown. It is not our natural place and we don’t belong as a shark belongs. Viewing great white sharks under the surface of the ocean is so peaceful; their grace and beauty underwater is unexpected and awe-inspiring which makes [...]

The beautiful shark fin

There is something so evocative about a dorsal fin of a great white shark. I love this pic we took on a trip a few days ago. I love how the fin beautifully and powerfully cuts through the water, causing its own waves. What feelings does this invoke in you? Fear? Respect? Awe? Power? For each person its something different. However, to see a great white in person, is amazing and will certainly change any misconceptions you have. You will come away respecting nature and understanding why people like us are so passionate about these super predators! To book your [...]

Updating our crew photo’s

We are busy updating our crew pics and I asked Rob to take a pic of  Wellington today. I think this pic of Wellington aka Welly, is a great one. Wellington is the main man when it comes to handling the shark bait and the seal shaped decoy! He likes to name each seal decoy and is very good at judging the sharks behaviour. He is also really good at making sure the great white sharks do not eat our bait. The aim of the bait is to act as an attractant. We do not want the sharks to eat the bait, [...]
