Great White Sharks On Fire At Seal Island

It's here! Winter has arrived and she's greeting us with strong winds, lots of rain and great viz to come. On recent shark cage diving trips to Seal Island in False Bay‎ we have noticed a large increase of Great White Sharks ranging from mostly new sharks and a few of the old faces too. One shark in particular we have seen a few times on natural predations, scavenges and he has even breached on our decoy seal once or twice. We like to call him chopper due to a large portion of his dorsal fin being chopped off. [...]

Shark Cage Diving – Breathtaking, but not scary!

Shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters   Shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters - “Breathtaking, but not scary!” Reviewed 17 February 2014 "An unforgettable experience. From start to end, the trip was amazing. The office staff was incredibly helpful in communicating frequently about our trip (weather was touch-and-go, so the decision to green-light the trip was made the previous day) and responding to 7pm text messages asking for directions to the pier. The dive itself was spectacular. It is an early start, but not bad if you're in Cape Town, and the trip out to [...]

African Shark Eco-Charters Joins WA Shark Cull Protest In Cape Town

African Shark Eco-Charters joined roughly 200 chanting shark cull protestors outside the Cape Town International Convention Centre this morning where Western Australian's Premier, Colin Barnett, was giving a keynote speech for the African Mining Indaba. Following the shark protests against the WA shark cull policy throughout Australia recently, fellow Great White Shark activists in Cape Town decided to show their support against the shark cull policy as well, and to speak up for the sharks that we share across our oceans. There was tight security set up around the CTICC for the Mining Indaba Conference which had prevented the protest group confronting [...]

Shark Attack Survivors Join Together To Help Save Sharks

African Shark Eco-Charters loves it when people take a stand to help save sharks, and we just have to applaud these group of shark attack survivors who have joined together to help save sharks in our oceans. A group of nine shark attack survivors, including Australian navy diver Paul de Gelder, gathered at the United Nations in New York to shed light on the fact that their attackers, including the Great White Shark, desperately need protecting. They have lost legs, arms, and ankle parts, and yet they still believe that our ocean's greatest predators have more to reason to fear the [...]

72 Drumlines To Be Set Under New Shark Hazard Mitigation Policy

Under Western Australia's Government's new "shark hazard mitigation" policy, two specially monitored zones will be declared off the metropolitan and South West coastlines between September and April, and 72 drumlines are to be set up 1km from the shoreline and fished until May 2014. Any shark greater than 3m in length found swimming within the monitored zones will be caught and destroyed by commercial fisherman, including endangered species such as the Great White Shark, and some other species not necessarily even considered a threat to humans. These harsh and unforgivable measures were put in place after the most recent shark bite [...]
