According to a recent article published in The Independent, the demand for shark fins and shark fin soup in China has plunged, and there is fresh hope for sharks around the world. The article  sheds some light that the consumption of shark fin soup in China has reduced significantly by 50 - 70% in the past two years, and that shark fin soup has been banned from official banquets thanks to a government campaign against extravagance, a former NBA star, an amalgamation of Chinese business leaders, celebrities and students.
