The Western Australian government has approved a plan to kill sharks that venture too close to people in the water. White sharks are a protected species in Australian waters, but the new policy would allow fisheries department officials to kill any white shark deemed an "imminent threat to people." Australia has averaged just over one fatal attack per year over the past 50 years. Petition against killing great white sharks in Australia

As you probably know, the government of Western Australia has recently announced it will be hunting and killing endangered great white sharks found in their coastal waters as a preventative measure. In response to this, an international petition  has received signatures from over 30 different countries in the first two days of the campaign. This is an important international issue.
